# Shopify

> Connect your Shopify store with an app from the Dev Dashboard, or a custom app's access token from before 2026.

Connecting Shopify lets an agent look up an order's status, search your products and start a return request. What it may do is set on the [Shopify store](https://wiredesk.ai/docs/actions/shopify-store.md) action.

There are two ways to connect, because Shopify changed how stores make apps for themselves on January 1, 2026.

## A Dev Dashboard app (any store)

Since 2026, apps for your own store are made in the Shopify **Dev Dashboard**, and they don't show you a permanent token. Wiredesk uses the app's client ID and secret to get a token, and gets a new one every day.

**1. Create the app**

In the [Shopify Dev Dashboard](https://dev.shopify.com/dashboard), create an app and release a version with these Admin API scopes:

* `read_orders` (add `read_all_orders` to look up orders older than 60 days)
* `read_products`
* `read_returns` and `write_returns`

**2. Install it on your store**

From the app's page, install it on the store you want the agent to read.

**3. Connect**

In Wiredesk, **Agents → your agent → Actions › Connections → Shopify → Connect**. Fill in the **Store address** (`acme.myshopify.com`), the app's **Client ID**, and its **Client secret**.

## A custom app made in your admin before 2026

Custom apps made under **Settings → Apps → Develop apps** before 2026 keep working. Leave **Client ID** empty and paste the app's **Admin API access token** (it starts with `shpat_`). The app needs the same scopes as above.

Before saving, we ask Shopify for your shop's name with the credentials, and the card shows it, for example **Acme Goods (acme.myshopify.com)**.
