DOCX to Markdown Converter (Word to Markdown)
Convert a Word document (.docx, .doc or .odt) to clean Markdown. Heading styles, lists, tables and links are kept. The file is converted in memory and not stored.
Policies are written in Word. The returns policy, the escalation matrix, the SLA addendum legal keeps in a shared drive with tracked changes on. Word is where they are drafted, reviewed and approved, and where they stay — until someone pastes one paragraph into a macro, someone else paraphrases it in a help article, and three versions of the same rule are in circulation by the end of the quarter.
This tool converts a Word file — .docx, .doc or .odt, up to 10 MB — to Markdown. Heading styles become # headings, bulleted and numbered lists become lists, tables become Markdown tables, and links are kept. No model is involved: the conversion runs on Cloudflare's document-to-Markdown service, in memory, and the file is discarded once the result is returned. This is the format an agent reads — the same conversion powers WireDesk's knowledge ingestion.
This ran once, on one input. The product runs on your whole site, every conversation.

Choose the file
A .docx, .doc or .odt file, up to 10 MB. If you have the choice, use .docx: older .doc files often carry manual formatting rather than heading styles, and the headings come out as bold text. Accept any tracked changes first, or you'll convert the draft.

Convert to Markdown
Press the button. The file goes over HTTPS, is converted once, and is dropped. It's deterministic — no model, no variation between runs — so you can convert the same document after every revision and diff the Markdown to see what changed.

Copy or download
Copy to the clipboard or download the .md file. Check the outline: every Heading 1 should be a # line and every Heading 2 a ## line. If a section is missing its heading, it was formatted by hand in Word and needs a real style before the next conversion.
Questions about this tool
Both work, and so does OpenDocument .odt. The difference is in the document, not the format: files from older versions of Word were often styled by hand — bigger font, bold — instead of with Heading styles, so their headings convert as plain bold text. Saving as .docx doesn't fix that; applying heading styles does.
