How to read it

What each input means

    Calls per week

    Count inbound calls, not outbound. If you don't know, your phone provider's call log or your last bill will tell you. A two-truck HVAC shop typically sees 60–150 a week in season.

    Share that go unanswered

    Include calls that go to voicemail — most callers who reach voicemail don't leave one, they call the next listing. Industry surveys put the unanswered share for small service businesses between 20% and 40%.

    Booking rate on answered calls

    Of the calls someone does pick up, how many become a scheduled job or estimate? For emergency trades it's high — 40–60%. For quotes and comparison shoppers, lower.

    Average job value

    Use your real average ticket, not your best day. For plumbing and electrical service calls it's often $250–$600; for HVAC repairs and installs, considerably more.
