This is the fastest route to a working agent. You give WireDesk your website address, it builds an agent from what it reads, you test it, and then you put it live. Nothing reaches customers until you turn a channel on and connect it, so you can safely get things wrong along the way.
1

Create your account

Sign up. You go straight to the setup screen, Point it at your website. Chat with it in a minute. You don’t need a credit card.
2

Build the agent from your website

Type your website address into the box. You can leave out https://. Then answer the two questions under it:
  • What should this agent do? Choose Answer questions about the business (the default), Handle support requests, Book appointments and capture leads, or Something else — I’ll describe it. Your choice shapes the name, greeting and instructions WireDesk drafts.
  • Where should it answer? Tick Website chat, Phone and Email as you need them. You must pick at least one. Channels you leave unticked aren’t set up, and you can turn them on later.
Click Build my agent. WireDesk reads a few pages of your site and drafts the agent’s name, greeting and instructions from them. This takes about half a minute. It then reads the rest of your site in the background and adds those pages to the agent’s knowledge. No website, or the site couldn’t be read? Choose Describe your business by hand instead, write a few paragraphs, and click Build from these notes.
3

Chat with it

Next you’ll see a live chat with the new agent. It works the same way your visitors’ chat will. Ask it the three questions your customers ask most. Then ask something your website doesn’t cover, and check that it says it doesn’t know rather than guessing. If you ticked Phone, click Hear it answer the phone to talk to it in the browser.
4

Check what it drafted

Click Adjust how it talks first, or later go to Agents → your agent → How it talks. Read the instructions. The draft comes from your website, so anything your site doesn’t say, such as prices, hours or policies, is missing. Add those facts as notes in Knowledge, not in the instructions. See instructions for why.
5

Turn on your channels

Click Looks good — put it to work →. You’ll see one step for each channel you picked:
  • Website chat: the snippet, with instructions for common platforms.
  • Phone: Set up the number opens Channels, where you get a number the agent answers. See phone.
  • Email: the agent’s email address, and how to forward your support inbox to it. See email.
Click Finish — go to your dashboard when you’re done. Everything here is also under Agents → your agent → Channels.
6

Install the chat widget

Open Agents → your agent → Install and copy the snippet. It already contains your widget key:
Paste it just before </body> in the layout that every page of your site uses, then publish. Load any page on your site. The status at the top of Install changes to Live on followed by your domain. Install the widget has the steps for each platform.
7

Watch the conversations

Open Conversations in the sidebar. Every chat, call and email the agent handles appears here in full. Read the first day’s conversations closely. They show you what your website doesn’t answer. Your first week explains what to do with what you find.
Want to see the bubble before you touch your own site? On Install, click Try it on a demo page. It opens a sample page that already has the snippet on it.
